Having appeared on HBO's three times, Roger Bonair-Agard brings a unique style and national acclaim to The Blue Room stage on Tuesday, July 15 at 7:00pm for the second in the summer series of Jazz Poetry Jams. Cover is 5.00 - join us for an electrifying evening of jazz & the spoken word!

Jazz Storytelling

Featuring vocalist Lisa Henry, storyteller Brother John, bassist Tyrone Clark and drummer Mike Warren, this free program introduces children to the sights and sounds of jazz music through interactive stories and songs. Each session explores a new topic, including jazz, its history and its legends. Held in the American Jazz Museum atrium on Fridays at 10:00am.

Also returning for the summer, Jazz Storytelling will be held on the following dates (subject to change): July 11; July 25; August 1; August 8; and August 15.

In the Changing Gallery: Jazz in Black & White

Featuring the work of William Ellis, Bob Barry & Jos Knaepen, Jazz in Black & White is an ensemble of fine black & white jazz photography, capturing a diverse range of musicians in a variety of settings. This exhibit will remain on display in the Changing Gallery through July 20. For more information, click here.

Coming to the Changing Gallery: 381 Days

On Friday, August 1, the American Jazz Museum will host a free opening reception for 381 Days: The Montgomery Bus Boycott Story, featuring live music, light hors d’oeuvres & cocktails as well as appearances by special guests to be announced.

Made possible through the support of AARP, this SITES (Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service) exhibit was developed in collaboration with Troy University Rosa Parks Library & Museum. Created to commemorate the events of 1955 that became the genesis of the modern Civil Rights movement, 381 Days: The Montgomery Bus Boycott Story is a thought-provoking, multimedia examination of an important era in American history.

The Museum will also present three free public programs during the exhibit’s run to further highlight its significance, including a panel session on the history of Civil Rights in Kansas City and a symposium on the dynamic relationship between the Civil Rights movement and jazz, among other events & activities. For more information, please contact the Museum at 816-474-8463 or visit www.americanjazzmuseum.org. 381 Days: The Montgomery Bus Boycott Story will be on display through October 12, 2008.
